Emerging micropollutants such as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and perfluorinated compounds
(PFCs) have added water quality observation item for the purpose of strengthening domestic quality
standards for drinking water. In drinking water treatment system, the unit operations in advanced water
treatment (pre and post ozonization, chlorine oxidation) and changes of water quality parameters
(temperature, pH and DOC) effect on the removal efficiency of the emerging micropollutants. Therefore,
onsite removal prediction and immediate response have become challenges when micropollutants are found
from raw water. In this study, chemical and physical properties of 144 of micropollutants were analyzed to
draw optimal removal efficiency of advanced water treatment process such as activated carbon, ozonization,
and NF/RO membrane. The activated carbon system will be effective for removal endocrine disrupting
chemicals and residual pharmaceutical compounds which are highly volatile and hydrophobic with over
LogKow 4. In case of NF/RO membrane is concerned to one of the optimal removal process for the some
of persistent organic pollutants which have higher molecular weight and low pKa under 2.5. In accordance
with these aspects, design improvement and research of advanced water treatment of will required for
increase the efficiency of micropollutants control.
