the mill scale was applied in activated sludge treatment systems as a ballasting agent for increasing the velocity of settling floc. The behaviour of mill scale in ballast flocculation was investigated by varying the size and dosing quantity. The effect of mixing intensity on ballasted flocculation is also explored using various mixing devices such as orbital mechanical shaker and jar tester. Followed by the settling of weighted mill scale ballasted floc, the mixture of mill scale and sludge was allowed to separate either by applying magnetic field or hydrocyclone operation. The recovered mill scale was reused for ballast flocculation. |
