The blockage effect on the runner blade thickness is changed the hydraulic performance and internal flow characteristics of runner. The flow passage areas between runner blades are changed with the different blockage ratios. It is made the varied hydraulic characteristics with changed flow rate in runner blades. The inter-blade vortex can be observed in between the runner blade passages at especially part load condition of the Francis hydro turbine. These vortices can affect hydraulic characteristics with irregular flow and flow separations in runner blades and cause the reduction of hydraulic performance, vibration, noise and instability of operation. In this study, the inter-blade vortex characteristics of a Francis hydro turbine model are investigated with the blockage effects of runner blade at especially part load conditions. The blockage effects of runner blade affect the inter-blade vortex characteristics with different flow passage area in runner blades. For observing hydraulic performance and internal flow characteristics with the inter-blade vortex characteristics, the three-dimensional steady and unsteady Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes are performed with the shear stress transport turbulence model. The locations and magnitude of vortices are compared with various blockage ratios for confirming effects of flow passage areas in runner blades to inter-blade vortex characteristics. The internal flow characteristics with the pressure contours and vector distribution are investigated with the vortex characteristics in flow passages of runner blades. |
