Estimation of Nonpoint Source (NPS) pollutant loads is one of the major components for management of eutrophication in a stream. When calculating the NPS pollutant loads, it is necessary to separate baseflow loads to make an accurate evaluation. In this paper, six baseflow separation methods are evaluated and applied to separate baseflow pollutant loads from conventionally estimated NPS pollutant loads from rainfall events. The digital filtering methods for baseflow separation are physically meaningful, and its application results show a reduction of unavoidable errors and subjective judgments in recession analysis. When applying the baseflow separation methods, it was shown that the conventional NPS pollutant loads estimation method is overestimated by 76-79% over the baseflow separation method. |
