Estimation of Water Supply in Agricultural Reservoirs Using Empirical Formula |

There are more than 17,000 agricultural reservoirs in South Korea, however most of them are managed in empirical manner or not managed. It is clear that the quantitative estimation of water supply is necessary for efficient water management in agricultural reservoir. However, the direct measurement of water supply is challenging due to the cost, therefore the supply data are not available and are estimated based on the irrigation water demand in most of the agricultural reservoirs in the country. In reality, there is a considerable difference between the real water supply and the estimated value based the irrigation water demand and storage rate data are usually the only reliable data in most of the agricultural reservoirs. In order to overcome inaccurate estimation based on the irrigation water demand, we tried to estimate the water supply using water balance model and empirical formula with storage rate data in this study. 15 years (2002-2016) data were used and Mansu, Yongseol, Daesa and Gongli reservoirs are selected for validation. As a result, it is found that the amount of water supply estimated in this study is more reasonable than the traditional estimation method based the irrigation water demand. |
