| The Bloom Characteristics of Filamentous Algae Cladophora glomerata (Chlorophyta, Ulvophyceae) in a Natural Stream without Disturbance |

Cladophora may be the most ubiquitous freshwater algae in the temperate northern hemisphere. This algae attaches to rocks and forms large tufts up to several meters long which stream from the point of attachment. Cladophora glomerata is often abundant in the Jangsupo-Wangpi Streams and often dominantes the periphyton community when it is present. Longitudinal Cladophora bloom in these streams have occurred since 2016. Two different questions in this study can be asked regarding nuisance growths of Cladophora: (1) why is Cladophora the dominant species? and what factors stimulate the growth of Cladophora? Based on the results, physical factors were seen to be critical to formation of the excessive Cladophora growth. This study can be useful information for developing strategies to reduce and manage the Cladophora bloom in a natural rocky and sloping stream. |
