The inter-blade vortices as a cavitation flow in a Francis hydro turbine were numerically investigated with various operating conditions. The development of cavitation vortices in the between turbine blade passages as the inter-blade vortex cavitation was often observed at the part load condition. This cavitation flow can cause the entire performance reduction, vibration, noise, and instability for operation. Therefore, the unerestanding of the cavitation characteristics is important for stable operation of turbine. For preliminary investigating multi-phase flow and vortex characteristics, three-dimensional steady state Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes calculations using shear stress transport turbulence model and the Rayleigh Plesset cavitation model were preformed. The inter-blade vortex cavitation was captured well near hub of the blade trailing edge between blade passages. This region showed flow separation and had lower velocity. For the future study of the inter-blade vortices, the unsteady analysis will be conducted for investigating vortex phenomena and pressure pulsation induced by vortex. |
