Since the construction of the Four Rivers, many reports have been made at the media and the National Assembly about the deterioration of the water quality in the down stream of the Nakdong River. The longer the residence time of the stream, the higher the occurrence of algal bloom and the increased use of chlorine in the water treatment process to cope with the increased algal bloom. The purpose of this study was to analyze the inflow characteristics of organic matter in the Nakdong River and to investigate the correlation between disinfection byproducts. The characteristics of organic matter were investigated from Yecheon upstream of the Nakdong River system to downstream of the Nakdong River. The average concentration of organic matter was increased by 0.14 mg/L in downstream estuary. The production capacity (THMFP) of disinfection by-product increased by 0.015 mg/L in downstream estuary. Organic and disinfection materials showed seasonal differences and showed the highest correlation in October. Nakdong River organic matter was more correlated with THM than HAA. The organic matter concentration and disinfection by-product production of Nakdong River estuary were slightly higher than Yecheon, which was upstream, but not significantly increased. |
