As a view point of the performance of a STP that adapt a biological sewage treatment process, it is determined by the metabolic characteristics of microorganisms. Microorganisms in STPs under steady state have stable metabolism and microbial settleability (MS), resulting in stable discharge of water. Conversely, microorganisms in STPs operating under unsteady state gradually degrade metabolic activity and MS, and the result is deteriorated effluent. It is expected that the current status of biological sewage treatment processes can be monitored by measuring the change of metabolic characteristics and settleability of microorganisms. For these reasons, this research was conducted in order to develop a new monitoring method and a device that can assess and determine the condition of small-scale STPs. |
