| Seismic Design Criteria and Seismic Performance Evaluation of Dam Facilities |

Damage to a dam, a representative national infrastructure, caused by an earthquake will cause enormous damage to society. Therefore, seismic performance and maintenance of a dam and related appurtenant facilities should be performed for protecting life and property of the people. In South Korea, as the revised seismic design criteria of 2017 has been announced, the dam seismic design criteria is also being revised to reflect the changes of revised seismic design criteria. In this article, the problems of the existing dam seismic design criteria, which are published in 2011 and future issues are discussed in detail based on the experiences and results of the seismic performance evaluation of the dam and the dam appurtenant facilities performed by Korea Water Resources Corporation. In addition, the present status of seismic performance evaluation of dams and dam appurtenant facilities under the Korea Water Resources Corporation was also introduced. |
