In July 2017, water quality accidents caused by the outbreak of freshwater harmful cyanobacterial-bloom (CyanoHAB) occurred in the coastal recreational beach located in the mouth of the Nakdong River. As a result, the opening and bathing of the beach was controlled indefinitely. In order to investigate the spatio-temporal causes, seven sites were selected within 8 km (from the estuarine barrage to the recreational beach). The basic water quality of freshwater and seawater showed the characteristics of longitudinal distribution. The maximum cell density of CyanoHAB in coastal area exceeded 3.0×105 cells mL-1. These results were observed shortly after the large discharge (800-1000 m3 s-1) of the estuarine barrage. The transfer and isolation of the CyanoHAB were the combined effects of eutrophicated freshwater discharge, brackish environment and coastal sandbar. |
