Climate change may affect the global hydraulic cycle and thus exacerbate the regional freshwater accessibility [1]. In line with the circumstance, northwest region of Chungcheongnam-do province in Korea have suffered from severe drought during the past years. Due to the recent drought, the water reserve rates of Daeho Lake which supplies water to the Daesan industrial complex reached up to 0% in June. Since the interruption of water supply definitely causes the serious economic losses especially for the petrochemical industry, alternatives to cope with the abrupt water shortage such as applying desalination and utilizing the other water resources near Daesan for sustainable water supply have gained great attention. To compare the strengths and weaknesses and finally determine the solutions, required treatment processes for each water source need to be defined. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the feasibility of utilizing the available water resources by comparing the treatment processes based on the raw water quality. |
