For a variety reasons, waterworks facilities inevitably experience some amount of leakage even if there is a lot of investment or state-of-the-art technology is applied. Although water leakage is found and fixed, there are necessary for ongoing management because leakage is naturally restored over a time. However, this restoration characteristic is well recognized, but researches on how much are restored annually and what factors are affected on them are insufficient in Korea. The natural rate of rise (NRR) in leakage can be used as an important indicator for decision making, such as sustainability assessment of water loss management, selection of an intervention for active leakage detection and decision to replace an existing pipeline. In this study, estimating method of NRR suitable for Korea situation (limited available data) is proposed and applied to 37 DMAs as a first step in establishing a sustainable strategy for leakage management. |
