For remediation grouting of embankment dam cores, a totally different design concept is required comparing to typical dam foundation or coffer dam grouting. Remediation grouting without reservoir water drawdown has been known as effective, however, no standardization is at present and publication of case histories are rare. In this paper, low pressure remediation grouting technique applied for Dalbang dam core layer is analyzed in detail. The dam included randomly developed fludized cores of high water content as well as granular cores in the area adjacent dam crest. As a result of remeditation grouting of dam cores, it is proven that the low pressure permeation grouting is effective to the remediation of both fludized and granular core layers. Detail empirically proven technical specifications are addressed including limiting grout pressure, grout flow rate, injection duration, initial grout mix ratio, additive ratio, and grouting condition change. Besides permeation grouting for cores, bentonite grouting for upper part of the granular core layer near crest is contributable to the stability against seepage flow in case of dam operation near normal high water level. Empirical case study in this paper is believed to be an important reference of hazard mitigation technology in the field of aging dam rehabilitation project. |
