The geosmin and 2-MIB, which are representative water odor compounds, caused by algae in river water generally provide unpleasant flavor and decrease water quality in drinking water despite without risk for human health. In order to obtain data of these compounds concentration as a reference standard data (RSD) in river water, Korea, we had been monitoring and investigating their concentration as a RSD in aquatic samples taken from 13 water treatment plants (WTPs) for a year in this study. The determination of geosmin and 2-MIB in water samples was used by SPME-GC-MS. The quantification limits was 0.001 ng/mL for geosmin and 0.002 ng/mL for 2-MIB, respectively in river water. The measurement uncertainty was 0.0002 ng/mL for geosmin and 0.0003 ng/mL for 2-MIB, respectively. The obtained concentrations of 2 odor compounds in river water might be provided useful information for reference standard data in Korea |
