In the past, people regarded water as free goods. However, water has become an important 'asset' in present day requiring proactive management. It is inevitable for human beings to rely on current technology due to the many conveniences they provide. Eventually, technology will be an essential requisite to maintain current levels of welfare and to secure water resilience. This leads to the assumption that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be achieved through diverse applications of technology. In this regard, the main object of the Smart Water Management (SWM) is to apply these techniques for effective water management. SWM has specifically two main focuses to obtain successful and working proof-of-concepts for establishing innovative techniques for water resilience as follows: a) supply appropriate water technologies to meet country-specific needs by taking into consideration unique current national water and economic conditions, and b) suggest policy and institutional approaches to cooperate with stakeholders and enhance the applicability of implementation for SWM. Adoption of SWM as a growth strategy and engine for developing countries will contribute to the realization of water sustainability and resilience. |
