Advanced PAL RTC auto sampler with various modules (CTC Analytics AG, Switzerland) with mass spectrometry was newly applied or optimized for multi flexible online monitoring system. This study developed real time monitoring methodologies particularly for fast responses of water works to algal blooming events.
1)Realtime Online SPE with HRMS for algal toxins
Within the allowed dimensions, the syringe of auto sampler is free to move for sampling and injection for swiching column type online SPE. HRMS by Thermo Fisher Scientific were combined. This simple system normaly obtains four data per hour. Microcystin and nodularin showed available recoveries.
2)Realtime Online SPME with GC-MS/MS for off-flavour compounds
Replaceable syringe tool was combined with 10mL for sampling, 0.1mL for adding internal reference material and SPME module for extraction and desorption. GC-MS/MS by Bruker and Shimadzu were combined. Types of syringes were sequentially changed from sapling, IS spiking and SPME procedure and GS/MS run by the optimized program. Tap water and source water applications were demonstrated in the lab and water treatment facilities. Data validation with soruce water showed comparable results.
Currently, 3) Online Purge & Trap method for volatile organic compounds is under development and preliminary tests.
