The water-related hazards such as drought and flood have occurred more frequently and severely than ever before all over the world. Climate change increases the risks, and exacerbates the effects of water related hazards that can affect millions of people, jeopardizing human security, hampering socio-economic activities and especially threatening ecosystems. A report from the IPCC stated that the effects of climate change to numerous sectors are already observed, and predicted that the impact of climate change would significantly increase. Especially, Aquatic ecosystem is very vulnerable to climate change and has already shifted in various aspects. Most policy and strategy focus on preserving and protecting aquatic ecosystem to maintain their current state or restore back to a historical state. However, it may be impossible or be futile in case of where the environment for aquatic ecosystem has already shifted by rapid climate change. It is not difficult to find shifting species in many places. Meanwhile many countries and organizations still spend a lot of efforts and funds in order to restore back to the historical species, even there is no historical analogs in such places. Hence, it is necessary to adapt forward looking strategy and to shift the paradigm for growing impacts of a changing climate. This study propose the climate smart IWRM strategy in K-water for sustainable management of aquatic environment in respect of water quality management, aquatic ecosystem and environmental policy depending on changing climate steps. |
