This study was aimed to feasibility of nitrate removal by the biocathode electrochemical system. The different type of reactor was evaluated. An open type BES (O-BES) and a cell type BES (C-BES) obtained nitrate reduction rates of 181.4 ± 43.8 g/m³/d and 87.2 ± 17.2 g/m³/d at a fixed cell voltage of 2.0 V, respectively. As a result, the O-BES achieved a higher nitrate removal efficiency, it was possible to remove the nitrate at low cell voltages. |
