Membrane technology offers various benefits to remove contaminants from the water according to the pore size and the physical properties without any by-products. In particular, nanofiltration is a promising technique to eliminate hazardous micro-pollutants such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhAC) and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs). However, we found that removal efficiency of targeted micro-pollutants was depending on the conditions of total dissolved solid (TDS) of feed water. In order to identify main reason of these results, we used an analytical method to evaluate the proportion of natural organic matters (NOM), which could play an important role in membrane fouling, thus may declining the performance of membrane process. In this study, the objective is to demonstrate organic species responsible for fouling in membrane process depending on concentration of TDS. |
