Membrane filtration process in water treatment can be an efficient and economical way to separate contaminants, which suspended in water. Membrane fouling is a main problem in maintenance control during filtration processes. It is important to predict and reduce membrane fouling that included inorganic/organic fouling, colloidal fouling, and biofouling. SDI (Silt Density Index) is a measure for the fouling potential, however, it is limited to predict surficial property of fouling substance and to get similar results in real field comparing theoretical approach. MCI (Membrane Cleaning Index) is complemented of these limitation. In this study, the membrane fouling index was evaluated and confirmed that MCI can be applied as a useful tool to predict the fouling capacity and to propose a suitable cleaning solution and method. |
