Demands of deionized water and ultra-pure water are increased by the industry acceleration and industrial water treatment plants are globally constructed. To satisfy the demands of industry, K-water is operating industrial water treatment plant from 2012 and supplying industrial water to Hyundai Oilbank, Samsung Total, Lotte Chemical, LG Chemical, and KCC in Seosan-si. This plant used microfiltration (MF) as a pretreatment and reverse osmosis (RO) membrane to produce 119,000 m3/day of industrial water. However, the difference conditions of feed water according to the season caused unexpected cleaning period as well as economic loss. Therefore, the fouling and cleaning case study of the plant was required to overcome the problems. In
this study, flux recovery ratio (FRR), salt rejection, weight, and differential pressure of RO membrane modules according to locations were investigated before and after commercial chemical cleaning. Furthermore, foulants and surfaces of RO membrane were analysed to confirm fouling tendency.
