Deep lake water generally maintains its temperature under 15 Celsius degree although the water of upper and mixed layer is influenced by atmospheric temperature. The water temperature in depth 45~55m of Soyang dam located in Korea has been measured around 5 to 15 Celsius degree for all year. This low temperature of deep lake water has attracted attention as a suitable source for a cooling system. Especially it is reasonable to install a cooling system using cold water for an IDC (Internet Data Center) which needs high cooling system because of thermal emission from an IT server network system. Recently, IDC demand is increasing rapidly as performance and processing ability of IT related equipments is evolving with the rapid development of IT. Heat and carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere from the IDC have influenced on global climate change. This feasibility study is focused on investigating an economic analysis and applicability of a new model of BEMS(Building Energy Management System) using deep lake water. In this study, one IDC 2.4km away from the Soyang dam has been considered, and it is predicted that the cooling energy consumption can be reduced by 55%. |
