Recently the technology of thin film coating with self-cleaning and anti-corrosion functions has attracted increasing interest. Traditional thermal treatment to sinter thin films are difficult to apply to flexible polymer substrates because of high temperatures that would destroy the substrate, and inert gases that are needed to achieve excellent electrical properties. Various techniques have been used to sinter nanoparticle thin films, including laser, electrical pulse, infrared, microwave, and argon plasma methods. However, Photo-sintering has received significant attention as a new post-annealing process that can be rapidly performed for sintering (i.e., within several milliseconds) at room temperature in ambient conditions. Here, the key principle is the selective heating of a thin film composed of metal nanoparticles with strong absorption that is essential to increasing the energy transfer from light, while preventing the thermal damage of the transparent substrate from light source. |
