Industrial wastewater included a lot of factors which inhibit the biological process, such as low or a high pH, heavy metals and a number of materials. Especially, the petrochemical wastewater contains sulfer as sulfate. It was reported that concentration of inhibition is 5 ~ 25 mg S/L more (Park and Wang, 1997) or more than 500 mg S/L (Galil et al., 1997) in the biological treatment. Kim and Lee (2003) have reported when the sulfur concentration was to increase, the COD removal rate was shown a tendency to reduce in the wastewater. When the wastewater contains 5,435 mg / L as sulfur, COD removal efficiency was 18%, and the nitrification efficiency was 40%. The aim of this study was selected for the chemicals to remove the sulfate contained in the spent caustic wastewater. This research was carried out to evaluate the sulfate removal efficiency depending on the chemical concentration by different pH conditions. |
