The algae blooming is social problem in Korea. Especially, water treatment plants (WTP) have been tried to get rid of odor compounds in water caused from the algae. Water odor compounds such as 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) and geosmin caused from algae in river water generally provide unpleasant flavor and decrease water quality in drinking water despite without risk for human health. The presence of these compounds in drinking water is the only way of determining the safety of tap water (McGuire, 1995). As a case study to obtain pure geosmin from natural algae, we primary collected them by TDU-GC/MS-PFC. |
