Hydrodynamic design is applied usually in order to reduce head loss in construction of a small hydro power plant. As a hydropower capacity was increased due to the flow rate increase, the discharge outlet shape after a draft tube needs to be redesigned to minimize the construction cost. In the study, head loss had been estimated by analytical method in first, and the effects on flow rate variation and the diameter of the discharge pipe were estimated. In addition, the head loss have been calculated by a numerical simulation solving by 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation, and the both estimated results have been compared. Also, the application of head loss reduction idea such as a round shape implementation at the inlet and outlet have been investigated. |
