In recent ten years, small hydropower plants which are located along the four major rivers and the biggest sea tidal power plant had been constructed in South Korea. In spite of hydropower construction boom, it was difficult to find Korean made turbines during the same period. Korea Water Resources Corporation(K-water, public company) which operates 1,324MW hydropower plants including Siwha Sea Tidal Plant is preparing to rehabilitate hydro turbine facilities operated over forty years. A model turbine performance test facility was built at K-water for supporting small companies in Korea to develop their technical abilities in 2013. K-water succeeded in testing a model bulb type turbine and drew performance curves. The test result has the uncertainty of 0.8%. Despite K-water tried to build it as IEC standards, the uncertainty of test result was not satisfied with national standards. A torque measurement system of model turbine and a dynamometer are needed to supplement. K-water will enhance the test facility and use it for promoting domestic turbine manufacturers with real hydro turbine sites of K-water’s. |
