For the rehabilitation of Namgang hydropower plant in Korea, new runner blade of the bulb turbine has been developed by CFD simulations. In order to confirm efficiency and cavitation performance, the homologous model turbine is manufactured with the homologous conduit and draft tube. The diameter of the runner blade is reduced from 3.0 m for the prototype turbine to 0.35 m for the model one. In the model turbine, the horizontal rotational power from the runner is transferred to the vertical electric dynamometer through a bevel gear, and the hydrostatic bearing system is installed in the bulb in order to measure the main torque with high accuracy. All of the instruments such as flow meter, pressure transduce, and force transducer is calibrated on site before the test. The test conditions including Reynolds number shall meet the requirement of an international standard of IEC 60193. Reliable experimental data have been obtained for various turbine characteristics such as efficiency, runaway speed, and cavitation, and the hill curve and the correlations between runner blade and guide vane angles have been analyzed. |
