Recently high levels of Geosmin and 2-MIB were increasingly detected in rivers.
Limitation of treatment has appeared in general drinking water treatment process. In this study,
removal efficiency was evaluated using advanced water treatment process and nanofiltration process.
When the concentration of Geosmin and 2-MIB were below 500 ng/L, the permeate was 20 ng/L that
the Minister of Environment recommends in nanofiltration process. And the removal efficiency was
about 96% consistently over 500 ng/L. The removal efficiency was different according to various
kinds of advanced water treatment process. After treatment, the 500 ng/L of Geosmin became below
10 ng/L by O3+GAC and the 1,000 ng/L of Geosmin became below 10 ng/L by O3/H2O2+GAC. After
treatment, the 1,000 ng/L of 2-MIB became below 10 ng/L by O3+GAC or O3/H2O2+GAC.
