Generally, dam design is performed through deterministic methods. However, deterministic
methods, which are unable to take into account the heterogeneity of a physical system, is limited to overcome variable uncertainties taking place in the natural phenomena. Accordingly, risk analyses considering the uncertainty of variables are getting spotlight, nevertheless studies and performance of such methods are rarely carried out especially in the case of dam risk analyses, which can lead to massive life casualties or property damages if performed poorly, are conducted purely considering hydraulic and hydrological components. In order to conduct an accurate reliability assessment of a dam structure not only hydraulic or hydrological parameters, but also components of various fields such as geotechnical engineering, material engineering or construction engineering should be included in the consideration. However, development of studies on dam reliability analysis considering geotechnical parameters is unsatisfying worldwide. In this study, as a preparatory work for the fully combined dam reliability analysis, various analyses considering geotechnical parameters are introduced for future application.
