Hydraulic structures such as dams, weirs or embankments are being constructed on gravel or
sand ground, therefore foundations of these hydraulic structures are poorly supported. Consequently thorough inspection is needed to assess the erosion characteristics due to water flow during design/construction period.However, it takes a lot of effort and great expense to perform laboratory testing to evaluate scour/erosion characteristics of soil materials.
This study discusses the development of Jet Erosion Test equipment for easier evaluation of soil cour/erosion characteristics, and covers corresponding testing procedures. It is expected to comprehend erosion resistance characteristics of soil more efficiently by performing in-situ/laboratory testing with the developed Jet Erosion Test equipment.
