This study aimed to evaluate the denitrification efficiencies of using different types of bio-electrochemical systems (BESs) operated with constant voltage. An open type BES (O-BES) and a cell type BES (C-BES) obtained nitrate removal efficiencies of 22.7 ± 4.5% and 21.0 ± 3.6% at a fixed voltage of 2.0 V, and the operating HRTs were 4.6 h and 6.1 h, respectively. As a result, the O-BES achieved a higher efficiency than the C-BES because the O-BES operated on a higher current. |
