To confront variable flow rate to a small hydro power, variable speed turbine system has been adopted to the micro hydraulic turbine less than 100 kW. As shown in Fig. 1, the developed variable speed propeller micro turbine consists of a propeller-type water turbine with fixed runner blade, a permanent magnetic synchronous generator, and an electric power converter-inverter system to convert to the frequency of power grid. Variable runner blade turbine is usually used for varying operating conditions, but complicated mechanical system for adjustable propeller blades and wicket gates and automatic control system should be employed. Although the fixed runner blade turbine can’t be operated on the rated speed under the various flow rate conditions, the electric power converter-inverter system converts the generated non-rated frequency electricity to the rated one with the grid power system. The micro water turbine system is installed at downstream of Yongdam No. 1 power plant to get proof data after the small-scale water turbine has been tested based on IEC 60193. |
