To characterize the runoff pattern of non-point pollutants in relation with land use in catchment area, intensive monitoring was carried out during the rainfall event in 2009. The 4TG(industrial area) showed a strong first flush effect by which a high concentration of pollutants(SS, COD Mn, TN, TP) was discharged temporarily in the early stages of a storm. An MFF30 analysis of the runoff revealed a mean pollutant load of over 50%. In the AS(urban area), a strong first flush effect did not appear, but the concentration of pollutants reached a peak at a certain point of time, after which the concentration quickly decreased. On the other hand, JJB and MS(rural area) did not show first flush effects, and at MFF30, 30% or fewer pollutants on average were discharged, which indicated the need for a pollutant load reduction method for pollutants discharged in the latter stages of a storm. Our result showed significant difference in the runoff characteristics of non-point pollutants particularly in industrial, urban and rural. Therefore, proper and specific best management plan of non-point pollutants runoff should be carried out according to its land use pattern in catchment. |
