The deterioration of water in water distribution networks forces water utilities to invest
their capital budgets in the renewal of pipe systems and in the reduction of non-revenue water.
Moreover, growing customer expectations call for a continuous water supply and high-quality tap
water. In this study, an integrated system for supporting the efficient evaluation and operation of water
distribution networks is built using information and communication technology. The developed system
consists of a performance evaluation module that provides functions related to hydraulic, water quality,
and structural measures, as well as an operation module that provides functions related to real-time
hydraulic analysis, water quantity and quality management, energy management, and risk management.
The developed system is successfully implemented in two distribution systems in Geoje and Jeongup in
Korea.
