This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of CDI(Capacitive Deionization) technology for removal of highly concentrated NH4-N, NO3-N and PO4-P in wastewater. CDI is a technology to deionize water by applying an electrical potential difference over two carbon electrodes. In the short-term test(capacity experiments) for a CDI-single cell, more than 70% of NH4-N, NO3-N and PO4-P were removed by struvite crystallization within 2 minutes of reaction time for adsorption/desorption. In the long-term test(efficiency experiments) for a CDI-module, the removal efficiencies of NH4-N, NO3-N and PO4-P were gradually reduced up to 25% within 200 days. |
