Removal of DOC concentration was observed in different concentration and pH condition of feed waters within NF membrane systems. The results are show in Fig. 1. DOC removal was in range of 80-90% at low DOC concentration and pH of feed waters. The DOC removal was 60% when DOC concentration in feed waters was above 5.0 mg/L. In general, when solute concentration on the membrane surface was increased i.e., increases of concentration polarization (CP), the solute removal becomes lower. CP can be reduced by hydrodynamic such as cross-flow velocity and TMPs and chemical injection such as cleaning in place. Yet, with a view point of real plant operation, it would not be easy to control hydrodynamic and chemical conditions due to water quantity to be produced and operational cost. |
