This study examined the rejection of 7 endocrine disrupting compounds(EDCs) and pharmaceutically active compounds(PhAC) from raw and spiked water by sand filtration, activated carbon, coagulation-sedimentation, microfiltration(MF) and tight nanofiltration(NF). The removal efficiency of EDCs and PhAC ranged from 3 to 36% in drinking water treatment except for the tight NF. There was no main rejection mechanism of EDCs and PhAC. It is expected that some of EDCs and PhAC were rejected by absorption. The rejection rate was from 58.4 to 98.6% according to byphysico-chemical properties of the compounds at a pH 7 and 10 by the tight NF. The size exclusion and charge repulsion are the main mechanisms in the tight NF. High pressure-driven membranes such as NF might be a powerful option to deal with such micro-pollutants as EDCs and PhAC. |
