◎ Background (or Objective) of This Study : Marine benthic invertebrates undergo both pelagic and benthic environment during their ontogeny. Post-settlement process is crucial for recruitment success of the target organism. During the early life stages, most benthic invertebrates could experience competitive ecological conditions in terms of their size and primary food sources. Micromolluscs are usually accepted as molluscs smaller than 5 mm in shell length (height). Recently, micromolluscan species have been increasingly recognized as abundant and important members in marine coastal ecosystems. However, their ecological roles are still poorly understood. Stable isotope analyses have been an useful tool to investigate ecological niche of a target organism as well as trophic structure of whole ecosystem. This study describes the preliminary results on trophic structures of micromolluscan communities, which were investigated using the small-sample method for δ13C and δ15N analysis based on Carman & Fry (2002). |
