The surface and groundwater resources in the Citarum River Basin (CRB), Indonesia are critical to
social and economic development of the country. One of the fundamental steps in water basin
management is a reliable and accurate rainfall-runoff analysis. In this study, a hydrologic system
to forecast rainfall-runoff for CRB in Indonesia was developed by employing RRFS (Rainfall-
Runoff Forecasting System), a long-term, hydrologic rainfall-runoff model enabling the
continuous simulation of daily, monthly and yearly runoff. Various water demands including
domestic, agricultural, and industrial uses were carefully taken into account. The model was
calibrated and verified using the observed flow data acquired during the data collection activities.
The rainfall-runoff model developed using RRFS will provide basic input data for the water
allocation and water quality models scheduled to be developed in the later phase of this project.
Additionally, RRFS-based mid- and long-term ESP systems will play an important role in risk
assessment and probability analysis for dam operation and water allocation plan.
