Full scanning technology by high resolution and accurate mass spec. (HR/AM) is one of most
advanced methodology for identification and quantification of organic compounds. In this
study, column switching technique based online SPE method was combined with high
resolution full scan Orbitrap mass spectrometer to measure totally 22 unregulated pesticides
and 24 pharmaceuticals in water. After parameter optimization of online SPE, 1 mL volume
of filtered sample was used. For instrumental analysis, positive ESI and Orbitrap mass
spectrometer with 100 ? 1,000 amu scan range at 50,000 resolving power was tested.
By this approach, available mass accuracy below 3 ppm (parts per million of monoisotopic
mass), calibration linearities for 10 ? 1,000 ng/L were above 0.99x. Under 10 ng/L reapeated
spiking tests, method detection limit (MDL) were obtained for pesticides 0.6 ? 5 ng/L,
pharmaceuticals 0.7 ? 4.2 ng/L. Precision and accuracy were also comparable to those of the
state-of-the-art conventional SPE with triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS/MS). By the
mothodology, high throughput screening for surface water, raw and treated water in dringking
water treatment facility was applied.
