For the MF filtration samples in spring, it was found that insignificant difference in flux decline rate (FDR) of the samples at pH range of 6-8. The FDR of the samples at less than pH 6 were much higher than that of others. In addition, the sample at pH 9 contained high amount of calcium carbonate which is possible foulant in the cartridge filter and RO membrane. As a result of the lab-scale RO experiments, the FDR of adjusted sample at pH 7.2 is significantly lower than that of raw sample at pH 7.7. This indicates that pH condition of 1st RO concentrate should be considered as a useful parameter to control fouling potential in 2nd RO systems. The samples collected in summer rarely affects the performance of cartridge filter and 2nd RO system due to better quality than that of samples collected in the spring season. Therefore, a database should be established for optimizing pH condition of RO concentrate as a function of season to develop better operating conditions in the RO plant. Further investigation of the sample in winter is still in progress. |
