A research project titled as "A Study on the Advanced Seismic Evaluation of Existing Dams" was launched in the need of re-evaluation of dams using higher design PGA and revised numerical approaches specified in the design code in Korea. The goals of this paper is to perform seismic evaluation of four selective fill dams (SY, HS, WM, MY) and to investigate the seismic safety under the design PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) of 0.22g. Newmark sliding block analysis based dynamic analysis was adopted for analysis. Dynamic material properties were used by in-situ nondestructive physical exploration. A systematic procedure was applied in a row of steady state FE (finite element) seepage analysis, equivalent-linear dynamic response analysis, and Newmark type pseudo-static limit equilibrium analysis. Input motions applied were artificially synthesized according to the standard design response spectrum. As a result, all four dams are evaluated in a safe state under the PGA of 0.22g for given input motions. |
