In this study, four existing fill dams were subjected to seismic performance evaluation using finite element and Newmark sliding block analyses. Though current national guideline for seismic evaluation is based on the PGA of 0.22g, it is worthwhile to investigate dam-specific seismic performance as a function of PGA. Consequently, besides the fragmentary seismic analyses using PGA of 0.22g, a limit PGA to cause 30cm of Newmark permanent displacement (PGA30cm) on the critical slip surface were searched for as a sort of performance based resistance capacity of each dam. Accordingly, performance based PGA evaluation as a safety limit may contribute to securing a clear view for preemptive seismic dam safety. |
