One of the largest geotechnical centrifuges in the world is being installed at K-water Institute in Daejeon, Korea for research purposes on mainly experimental performance verifications of dams. The 800 g-tons maximum capacity geotechnical centrifuge has 8.0 m platform radius and can be operated up to 150 g centrifugal acceleration. An experimental model with maximum weight of 8,000 kg can be loaded in 2.0 m (L) × 2.0 m (W) × 2.0 m (H) large platform. The centrifuge is equipped with fluid rotary joint for hydraulic supplies, fiber optic rotary joint for network connections, sliprings for electrical power supply and signal transmission, and on-board data acquisition system. A large scale uniaxial servo hydraulic in-flight earthquake simulator is also developed in order to simulate dynamic test for geotechnical systems. It has 1.6 m (L) × 0.8 m (W) experimental platform and can provide maximum 22 g horizontal acceleration in sinusoidal vibration load to 1,500 kg payload. An in-flight uniaxial loading system as well as miniature transducers will be prepared for general physical modelling purpose. |
