K-water institute of Korea Water Resources Corporation is performing various physical model tests for dam and levee structures to verify the validity of numerical analysis and to study complicated phenomena accounted in geotechnical engineering area. It is also constructing a world class geotechnical centrifuge facility in Daejon, Korea. The present paper introduces the geotechnical centrifuge project to be completed by the end of 2012, and shows us two physical model tests. The first one is a rectangular model box test to study the effect of vibration of conduit or pipe, which is buried inside embankment during pump operation at pump station, on safety of its embankment, and the second is to verify the validity of a real time electric resistivity monitoring system which can be used in monitoring the safety condition of filldam body. Finally some considerations to be payed in physical modelling are given. |
