Studies to treat effluent of membrane back-washing or other discharge water has been done by several researchers. It is expected to obtain flexible operation, compact system, and modular extension in response to feed water quality variation and future demand. Membrane process, however, could be complicated compared to conventional sedimentation and dissolved air flotation and susceptible to fouling caused by microorganism, manganese, and coagulant which might exist in discharge water. In Korea, it is plausible to reuse discharge water both by re-circulating back-washing effluent into starting well and by reusing supernatant of gravitational thickener to wash belt press filter. To assess the feasibility, supernatant of gravity thickener from several water treatment plants was attempted using MF/UF bench scale experimental apparatus. |
