In this study, a pilot-scale RO pilot system was tested to demonstrate industrial water production. Osmotic backwash was accidentally observed when the system was stopped suddenly with a failure in the middle of May, 2009. After the sudden stop, the membrane resistance was slightly decreased as shown in figure 2. Then we introduced intentional “stop and go” to the system, so called osmotic backwash. The osmotic backwash period was once a day. It made the increasing rate of membrane resistance slow or negligible. |
