The recent Tohoku earthquake(2011) and Iwate-Miyagi earthquake(2008), the Sichuan earthquake (2008) in China give Korea peninsula a warning that it is no more safety zone against damage by earthquake events. So, rapid and appropriate countermeasures for dam operation and management against earthquake are needed. The Korea earthquake design standard has been revised after Kobe earthquake. Installation of seismometer and monitoring of earthquake for special class dams is regulated in dam aseismic design standard. Real-time dam earthquake monitoring network has also been developed to detect an earthquake efficiently and to warn to dam administrators as soon as possible. In this paper, the main damages of dams by recent earthquakes are introduced in the first section. In the second section, the counter-move to earthquake is introduced. In addition, real-time earthquake monitoring system is introduced. |
